Phew! So, it probably goes without saying that the beginning of a new school year totally wrecks any ambition to have a normal blog updating regime. In four weeks I have done a lot but also felt like I haven’t done a single thing. The biggest challenge for me right now is dividing up my time in an effective manner. Juggling a studio practice, two seminars and a teaching-assistantship, plus a homelife is totally a 3 ring circus act. However, I think I’m getting close to pinning my schedule down, realizing that I have to make a certain amount of sacrifices in order to get everything to work the way I want it to. The biggest sacrifice? TV. But don’t worry, fellow popular TV junkies, I’ve discovered how to download my shows so I’m not totally in the dark (this also means I can watch Gossip Girl and Glee and Grey’s Anatomy in the studio and in theory that means I’ll be working more……?)

I don’t feel like I have a ton to say right now in regard to my studio practice since everything is just in those baby beginning stages. They are only seen in sketches, notes on paper and in visions that only get conjured up while I’m washing my hair (something to do with scalp massage, seriously!). I’m making progress on my multi-headed sweater, which is the only knitting project I’m pursuing right now due to time constraints/boredom/money/physical injury. On the periphery I am doing drawings for a large wall-based work that will either take the form of a weaving or a hooked rug–I’m leaning toward a hooked rug but I need someone to teach me how to do it before my dreams get too big. And, there are visions of large upholstered sculptures that will probably involving feltmaking and dyeing (yay!).

My brain is sort of all over the place and I feel like there are not nearly enough hours in the day to do everything I want. Despite going to bed at midnight and waking up at 6:30am and drinking copious amounts of coffee, I still run out of time. Sigh. I am hoping that more concrete things will be rearing their creative heads soon so I’ll have more stuff to show.

In the meantime, here’s a photo of me acting like a mime:

I figure if the whole visual art thing doesn’t work out for me, I’ll seek a career as a mime. Heh.

One Response to “Hi-five!”

Hi Suzen,
I think your classmate Mona mentioned that I’ve been following your online adventures for a while – just thought I’d say hello!
I found one of your blogs by accident years ago and I seem to keep coming across your various projects and websites… I love your work, by the way!
I’m sure we’ll meet in person someday… Good luck this semester!
