So it has been a somewhat productive evening in the studio tonight. I’ve done a little bit of drawing, knitting, researching and writing. A friend asked me the other day over MSN if I had “pitched a tent” in my studio yet and I laughed it off but holy, moly I’m not far off. I spend a lot of time here. I usually have class in the afternoon (or early in the morning) that lasts anywhere between 2 and 4 hours. Then I stay an extra 2-6 hours in the studio working on this and that. A lot of the time I am staring at the screensaver scrolling on my Macbook thinking about what to do next. Other times I’m actually doing something productive.

Tonight I managed to finish #4 in of 9 yokes for my multi-headed sweater. I’m definitely plugging along at a nice pace with this thanks to a few careful notes and the spontaneous patterning that’s keeping my brain interested. Now that I have 3 yokes complete I can get a better idea of the finished size this is going to take. It’s going to be a bit of a monster but totally controllable. I’m not really looking forward to grafting everything though. But I think I’ve said that before.

I’m really digging the stripe and rice pattern on this yoke. I’m even considering it for a normal sweater once all the work on this is done. I love working with Briggs & Little Country Roving–the softness of the unspun wool and the smell of the lanolin. Now that the weather is getting colder and fall is really taking hold, all I can think about is having a giant sweater of my own. Maybe in a nice merlot melange or in a lush indigo. Sigh. Too many ideas! I have to remember to prioritize my ideas….

The big thing I’m working on right now is a short paper and presentation that has to be submitted/performed on Friday. It’s not that I’ve been putting it off but I guess its only now that I’ve attempted to put all my random thoughts in order. It’s really driving me nuts and I’m anticipating a bit of a late-nighter tomorrow as I get all my shit together. What’s the presentation/writing on, you ask? Maybe a look at just one stack of books on my desk may tell you (or not).

Actually, come to think of it, this stack of books doesn’t really say anything about what I’m doing. Sigh. To put it really quickly, I am researching the role of bread in Newfoundland in a magical context. That’s right, Magic! I think my presentation will be a lot more fun than the writing component as my presentation will be laden with personal anecdotes and my serving of Hard Bread–a stale bread biscuit that cannot be eaten unless soaked for at least 8 hours. Maybe I’ll post the text once I’m done so y’all can read about the magical powers of bread :)

In the meantime, get back to work, people!
