On Christmas Eve, my boyfriend and myself flew to Nova Scotia to spend the holidays with my family in Nova Scotia. On Christmas Morning, I pulled out what I initially thought was a cake server but turned out to be a gigantic knife from my stocking. It was pretty shocking. Seriously!

Holidays spent in Dartmouth are always packed with family, laughter, food and booze. So far we have eaten two turkey dinners, one feed of lobster and a big seafood dinner including salmon, scallops and mussels. It’s too bad that I didn’t eat any of it but that’s ok! I made improvised daal with red lentils and brown rice and that was filling enough for me. Ryan and I have also been to Halifax only once so far where we spent the afternoon at Henry House, a pub that’s in a building roughly 150 years old. He had the bangers and mash and two pints of bitter ale. I had the veggie quasedillas and a few pints of McAuslan pale ale. It was delish.

There isn’t any snow here but that doesn’t really surprise me since I’ve only really been here once when there’s been a mess of snow on the ground. The lakes aren’t even frozen and the grass is soggy and yellow from all the rain.

I’ll be in Nova Scotia for another week before heading back to Montreal, a couple days late for the winter semester. During my stay I’ve got a handful of things planned aside from all the family get-togethers. Like going to the ocean for a while. My parents live in the suburbs with no ocean in sight so I’m hoping at one point to take the twenty minute drive through Cole Harbour to get to that rocky beach with the giant waves I was at over the summer. I love the ocean in the winter, maybe even more than in the heat of summer. It’s way more dramatic when the sky is as grey as the water and the waves lash out like claws. I also want to do some yarn and hooked rug store hopping since all that stuff is pretty hard to find in Montreal. I need to build up my collection of hooks and stretchers.

Anyway, I hope all your holidays are treating you well! I’ll leave you with a picture of lobster.

One Response to “Happy Holidays from Dartmouth, NS!”

I feel the same way about oceans/lakes in winter!
