Holy smokes, people. This has been one long week. Out of my normal five-day school week, only one day has truly gone as planned. Yet, despite fire alarms, no energy, power outages, bad moods and poor timing, I’ve managed to have a productive week with only minimal headaches/jaw pain. It pays to have a partner at home who will hug the bad mood right outta you. Motrin helps too.

The big thing I’ve been doing this week is The Sweater. Fortunately, the entire process is going about as fast as I was expecting it to. It has turned into a monster of wool and once finished I’ll have to redefine my display options because what I initially decided on isn’t really going to work. I think I’ll have to break down and actually ask for help with this one, guys. Lord knows I must be in a tough spot if I’m asking for help…heh.

Anyway, here are some in-progress shots. The sweater has become so big now that I cannot work with it on the table–I have to be sitting on the floor. I have to be level with it so I can look the beast in the eye and show it who’s boss.

I’ve setup on the floor sitting on the crochet disaster I made over the summer (which has since proven to be a great floor pillow). On the computer I’ve been watching episodes of Being Erica and random movies (Bright Star, Sherlock Holmes and Fantastic Mr. Fox, to name a few). The floor is pretty hard to sit on so I have to take more breaks than I would like but whatever. Things are getting done!

At this point 3 of 4 sides have been knit. Since this photo was taken (which was on Wednesday) I’ve knit the 4th side and seamed the entire thing up. This way of construction has worked great. I’ve placed each side panel on scrap yarn so I can knit a patterned rib in the round, evening out any little mishaps in the process. I am the Queen of Seaming after this. I love invisible seaming!

The three-needle cast-off technique I used to attach all the yokes has worked really well too. For the most part everything has lined up and the visible seams appear deliberate in placement rather than haphazard.

The big thing that has to be done now is the hanging mechanism. The sweater is H.E.A.V.Y. I’m a little terrified than if it is hung from a ceiling that it will pull the roof down. As ideal a series of bust forms would be, there’s no way I can round up nine of them.

Anyway, that’s the next thing I have to figure out. After I finish the sleeves……..

Papermache forms, maybe? Seated on a trestle table? It’s looking great!

I can’t even begin to suggest something to help you display this– but it’s incredible!! Seriously, this huge sweater monster looks AMAZING!
